Over the past few decades, education has been devoted to conquer knowledge through understanding. There is a growing awareness of the importance of encouraging higher thinking skills to seek out individual and collective learning. In this session, Presenters will share work done by children from four preschools in Florida as well as their experience implementing the Visible Thinking approach from Harvard University. Participants will explore the power of documentation, thinking routines and concept maps when making thinking visible in the classroom.
Introduction to:
This session will focus on the practice of VT. All participants will actively participate in the use of thinking routines, Inquiry, and the methodology that VT uses to promote habits of mind. The workshop will be followed by a reflection period to give participants the opportunity to identify the key characteristics of VT and how to implement them.
Different approaches to getting started in VT will be shared. The Power of Documentation, Thinking Routines, and Thinking Ideals. Each could be your way to start. In Addition the benefits of each and relation to early childhood settings will be discussed during this session.
